Harri Jones walks away from terrifying Queensland Raceway crash...

Jones, who has only recently been confirmed as Jack Le Brocq’s co-driver for the upcoming endurance races, was completing his first laps with the #4 Sherrin Rentals Camaro when the incident occurred.

The crash came shortly after a pit stop that included a brake change, with Jones reporting that the brake pedal went straight to the floor approaching Turn 6 at high speed.

Jones estimated the car was traveling at more than 200 km/h when the failure occurred. With only a small amount of rear braking remaining, the Camaro spun through the gravel before making heavy contact with the tire barrier.

The impact caused significant damage to the left-hand side of the Camaro and is expected to rule the car out for the remainder of Tuesday’s running, leaving the Matt Stone Racing crew with a major overnight rebuild ahead of Wednesday’s ride day.

For Jones, the biggest relief was simply walking away.

“It’s f***ing terrifying, to be honest,” Jones admitted after the crash.

“I’ve never really had that happen before. Hope not to have it happen again.”

The incident also raises further questions for MSR, with the team’s wildcard Camaro suffering its own brake issue during practice at last weekend’s Century Batteries Ipswich Super440, when Aaron Seton went off into the Turn 3 gravel.
