Sergio Perez described being Max Verstappen’s teammate at Red Bull as the “worst job in Formula 1” due to intense pressure and internal strain.
He reflected on four turbulent seasons, which ended with his release despite finishing second in the championship a year prior. Perez explained that his performance was scrutinized regardless of the outcome, creating a tense atmosphere where being faster or slower than Max was problematic.
He felt the pressure intensified as Red Bull’s development increasingly suited Verstappen, leaving him vulnerable. Perez also revealed that he was pushed towards psychological help early in his tenure after poor results, with a significant bill for one call.
He believes that in his final seasons, upgrades and focus were increasingly directed towards Verstappen, leaving him behind. Despite the bitter ending, Perez regrets how Red Bull unraveled, believing the team had potential for long-term dominance.
