Vale Alan Jones...

Australian Formula 1 world champion Alan Jones has passed away at the age of 80 following a short battle with cancer. The Melbourne-born driver achieved legendary status by winning the 1980 F1 world championship with the Williams team, remaining the only Australian to claim the title since Sir Jack Brabham.
Throughout his career, Jones secured 12 Grand Prix victories across 116 starts while driving for various teams including Hesketh, Shadow, and Williams. Known for his determined racecraft and straightforward personality, Jones followed his father Stan into the sport and endured years of struggle before finding success in Britain.
His breakthrough victory occurred at the 1977 Austrian Grand Prix with Shadow, but his most significant impact came during his formative years with Williams. His death occurs just days after celebrating his 80th birthday, marking the loss of a pivotal figure in Australian motorsport history.
