Lando Norris won the 2025 Formula 1 drivers’ championship in a tense Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, securing the title by finishing third behind Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri.
This podium finish was enough for Norris to claim his maiden world championship and become Britain’s 11th F1 title-winner.
Although he only needed a top-three finish, Norris had to fight through traffic after an early pit stop and a close call with Yuki Tsunoda before regaining track position.
Max Verstappen controlled the race from pole, taking his eighth victory of the season, while Oscar Piastri pushed to keep his championship hopes alive, finishing second.
The final standings show Norris just two points ahead of Verstappen, with Piastri further back, marking McLaren’s first drivers’ championship since 2008. Norris expressed his relief and joy, calling the achievement surreal, while Verstappen enjoyed the battle despite missing out on the title.
