Ford Performance and Motorsport Powertrains are urgently investigating the reliability of Coyote Supercars engines after James Courtney's engine failure in Townsville due to a crankshaft issue.
This investigation is crucial before the upcoming Bend 500 and Bathurst 1000 endurance races. The failure follows reports of cracks on other engines, raising concerns about a potential platform issue affecting both Ford and GM engines.
Ford and MPT are working to understand the problem, with a focus on engine durability and potential vibrations in the Gen3 cars. More frequent servicing of the harmonic balancer is being explored as an interim solution.
