Toyota will enter the championship with five cars through Walkinshaw Andretti United and Brad Jones Racing, and will have the #1 plate due to Chaz Mostert's 2025 title victory.

Dick Johnson Racing Ford star Kostecki expects Toyota to struggle initially, predicting they will be 15th or worse for the first couple of rounds and struggle for much of the season.

Kostecki believes the Toyota V8 engine will be the main issue, despite the car's aerodynamics, he also qualified his comments as "third-hand information" and joked they might perform well.

Kostecki observed US wind tunnel testing for homologation, where the Mustang became the baseline for the Camaro and Supra.

The 2026 Supercars Championship begins on February 20-22 at Sydney Motorsport Park.
