Allegations Of Theft!

Chris Gabehart, a former employee of Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), has responded to allegations of "brazen theft" of confidential information and trade secrets.

JGR is seeking $8 million in damages, claiming Gabehart took information to a rival team. Gabehart vehemently denied these allegations in his legal filings, stating the lawsuit aims to punish him for leaving.

He spent 13 years at JGR, serving as Denny Hamlin’s crew chief and later as competition director, before joining Spire Motorsports as chief motorsports officer. Gabehart described JGR as "dysfunctional," citing an impasse over the team owner’s grandson, Ty Gibbs.

He claimed he was promised a COO-type role with autonomy but instead found himself constantly intertwined with senior JGR executives and family members in decision-making.

Gabehart alleged that "Coach" Joe Gibbs pressured him to become Ty Gibbs’ crew chief, despite his objections and belief that it would undermine team development. He stated that Ty Gibbs was not held to the same standards as other teammates.

Gabehart eventually conceded to pressure and served as crew chief for nine races before returning duties to the original crew chief. Gabehart left JGR in November, and the team allegedly stopped paying him that month.

After a forensic audit, JGR filed legal action against him. Gabehart conducted his own audit, which he claims showed no evidence of him transmitting or sharing any confidential JGR information.

JGR has since amended its lawsuit to include Spire as a defendant and is seeking a restraining order to prevent Gabehart from working there.

Gabehart argues that granting injunctive relief would deprive him of his livelihood in NASCAR. A hearing is scheduled for Saturday in North Carolina.
