Solberg Shaking Things Up In Chile!
Recently, speed hasn't been an issue for Solberg, but turning it into results has been tough. He came in second to Sami Pajari in Finland after losing time in Friday's rain and initially led in Paraguay before a stall and tyre change cost him time, ultimately finishing fifth but securing the Wolf Power Stage win.
Chile was a different story. There were no disruptions, and Solberg didn't have to push to the limit. “In the last three rallies, I felt capable of fighting for victories, but bad luck got in the way,” he said. “Finally, everything went smoothly, allowing me to focus and drive.”
Making his first Rally1 start in Chile, where he had previously won twice in WRC2, Solberg was the fastest on six out of 16 stages and led almost the entire time. He ended Friday 10.1 seconds ahead, resisted Sébastien Ogier's attack on Saturday, and increased his lead to 19.1 seconds before Sunday's final stage. Solberg emphasized his consistency and control, knowing when to push. Despite Ogier’s Saturday attacks, Solberg managed his tyres and maintained balance, which Toyota described as key to his performance. He insisted there was no fundamental change in his driving style.
Solberg arrived in Chile third in the standings, 41 points behind leader Elfyn Evans. His victory, along with Evans' puncture and Pajari's quiet weekend, altered the championship outlook. Solberg never gave up on the title, aiming to win both South American rallies. “Everything came together well here, and we gained important points. The others had less successful weekends, so luck was on our side too.”
Two rallies remain: Rally Italia Sardegna in October and the Saudi Arabia finale in November.
