Can Toyota Win On Debut At Bathurst?...
"I don't see why it can't."
That's the confident assertion from Fabian Coulthard when asked if he believes Toyota can succeed at the Mountain, a goal the brand expressed upon entering the sport.
The 2026 GR Supra made a successful Supercars enduro debut at The Bend, with Chaz Mostert and Coulthard winning by over 18 seconds. In a bold statement of intent, the sister car driven by Ryan Wood and Jaxon Evans finished third. Despite a tense strategic moment, Toyota nearly achieved a surprising 1-2 finish. Coulthard entered the 2026 Ryco Enduro Cup with "unfinished business" and delivered an outstanding performance in challenging conditions at The Bend before handing over to Mostert.
The Kiwi played a significant role in the development of the Supra, covering many miles in testing alongside veteran Warren Luff. Winning at The Bend — and doing so without any reliability issues — was satisfying for Coulthard, who remarked: "It’s a pretty amazing feeling. "Especially for myself and Luffy, having done some of the development work last year on the Toyota and similar tasks.
"The team has done a fantastic job evolving it since then, and to achieve two podium finishes here at a '500' where reliability hasn't always been strong. "For us to secure two podium finishes, it’s a testament to everyone at Walkinshaw TWG Racing. They provided us with the car and the strategy, and we were able to achieve this result."
Mostert was cautious but insisted that Walkinshaw TWG and the wider Toyota team will carry significant confidence to the Mountain.
Coulthard, however, was resolute. When asked if he believes Toyota can win its Bathurst debut, the now 14-time winner responded: "I don't see why it can't."
"That's obviously the goal, and it's what we strive for every weekend at Bathurst.
"But I've always said the Mountain chooses you, and the Bend chose us today. Hopefully, the Mountain chooses us in a few weeks' time."
Track action at Mount Panorama begins on Thursday, October 8.
